Nicole Spring Break
Nicole and her boyfriend Jimmy came to visit on their spring break. We had a great time.
We spent a very busy day in New York City. Our first stop was the museum of natural history. After visiting my fair share of natural history museums, I was really impressed with the exhibits. We all had our favorite parts of the museum. I liked the North American large mammal exhibit best. Jimmy really enjoyed the prehistoric exhibits. Hope liked seeing “Dum dum” (watch a night at the museum). While Nicole’s favorite part was the special exhibit called “the secret world inside you.” It was all about germs. (I kept looking for the hand sanitizer!)
Then we headed to an Irish pub. It was St. Patty’s day after all. After enjoying a quick drink we headed to an exhibit about Star War’s costumes. I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed it. We saw costumes and props from various star wars movies. I really got an appreciation for how the costume really does impact the story telling. (I for one took them for granted.)
After an Italian dinner, Nicole treated us to desert at Junior’s famous cheesecake. It was extremely good. I had a devil’s chocolate cake. At Junior’s that means a multi-layer cake that happens to have a thick layer of cheesecake as one of the layers. I highly recommend stopping when you are in NYC but come hungry.
The next evening we went to the Wolf Pack hockey game. As the regulation game time ended it was a tie game. We settled in for a long overtime as we waited for them to resurface the ice. After about 15 minutes the puck was dropped and 20 seconds into overtime the Wolf Pack scored! Yep…15 minutes of waiting for 20 seconds of play! We all had a great time.
We woke up Saturday to a chilly morning and decided to go for a hike. We visited the Barkhamsted reservoir and another place that Hope and I found last year. While it was cold it was a beautiful cloudless day. I really like a number of pictures that we took at a stone bridge that we stumbled upon.
